Name changes will be supported
In response to your page three article in the Roodepoort Record of 3 November "CF councillor kicked out".
It is a very sad day for Christian politics in South Africa when a Christian politician behaves rudely, arrogantly and unbecoming of Christian Politics in Council.
The Christian Democratic party does not always agree or support the changing of names that is on the ANC's agenda. We however, believe that our opposition should be expressed in such a way as to also show understanding of another person's point of view.
To some, names such as Hendrik Verwoerd and JG Strijdom drives in Randburg, are offensive and have bad connotations, and we will not oppose these changes.
The majority of South Africans are fed-up with racial hatred, wherever it comes from, and we believe that as Christians we need to work towards reconciliation rather than creating further polarisation.
The CDP is of the opinion that all Christians need to embrace, humble themselves before God, pray for healing for South Africa, and set an example to bring peace and prosperity back to our contry.

Toxic gases escape over Turffontein
Residents of Turffontein have been phoning the COURIER and complaining of a terrible smell and pall of smoke over the suburb.
A fire has been burning at the Council's Pikitup depot Springfield in Eloff street ext for over a week, releasing toxic gases.
According to Councillor Linda Pretorius from the Christian Democratic Party, trucks started dumping their loads on the side of the retaining wall on the far south-western side of the site bordering Eastwood Street a few months ago, causing an extremely horrible sight and resulting in a revolting smell at times.
"To top it all a smouldering load was dumped by a truck two weeks ago resulting in a fire that caused a thick cloud of smoke and gases in the air, and has been smouldering since."
"Residents have been suffering because of this and some of the elderly are experiencing difficulty in breathing and have had to get medical treatment because of the severity of the smoke cloud."
"The Christian Democratic Party is also concerned about the horses at Turffontein Race Course, and racing pigeons in the area," Clr. Pretorius says.
"Pikitup officials are trying to resolve the problem, and in the meantime residents have to endure this environmental disaster. We will be requesting that Pikitup investigate this situation. Measures should be put in place to ensure no repetition of this in the City of Johannesburg, and we will be monitoring the situation," added Pretorius.

Religion is the backbone of any nation. To neglect your Christian roots is to ensure future calamity.
In Britain'w present obsession with secular/humanism and the separation between Church and State you have effectively removed a pillar from your society that is causing it to crumble.
I lived in England from 1960-1967 and my children are presently living there. Removing Christianity and thus effectively removing God from your government, schools and other areas has brought about a moral collapse resulting in an escalation in crime and an increase in hooliganism, drug addicition, binge drinking and uncontrolled behaviour amongst children and teenagers.
Secular/humanism has resulted in failure. Why not return to Christianity and put back the "great" in Great Britain. By trying to be all things to all people you are ending up being nothing to anyone.
To think that in China Christians are willing to endure torture and even death for the sake of their faith!

Watching the images of 9/11 on Sky TV is once again a reminder that we are at war.
It seems as if the Muslim community is refusing to take responsibility for acts of terror perpetrated by the radicals in their ranks. In fact it would appear as if they are trying to justify what these radicals are doing by fabricating a reason for their barbaric actions.

The Co-Federal Leaders of the Christian Democratic Party pledged the Party's support for Israel in the latest violence that has flared up in Lebanon.
"The provocation by Hizbollah is totally unacceptable" they said. "War is a terrible thing, and the loss of life on both sides regrettable. But Lebanon only has itself to blame as they have given the terrorist Hizbollah free reign in their country and allowed them to use Lebanon as a launching pad for agression against Israel. It is interesting to note that the South African Government once again - as in Zimbabwe - is seen supporting the 'wrong side'."
